#84. The General Roy, Feltham. 22.7.17.

It's the General Roy Garden Party, featruring Feltham's favourire covers band. The rain may have put an end to the garden bit but couldn't stop the party! Thankfully the fantastic General Roy crowd were in full party mood, singing & dancing along with the band from the first to last song.

Set 1 saw the Phantoms instantly into top gear with an audio assault of 90’s sing-along fav’s including Living for the Weekend by local band Hard-Fi (who incidentally have never been asked to play at the Roy – Losers!). A few songs later as a downpour from outside was hammering onto the arched window of the Phantoms cosy indoor stage, the irony of the lyrics in the Monkees ‘I’m a Believer’ was not lost on the band & crowd alike: “when I wanted sunshine I got rain”!

After an all too brief beer break the boys were soon back in action. Normally venues are not too happy when the band announce ‘it’s happy hour next’ but the Roy were certainly ready with their 2-4-1 on cocktails offer as the boys belted out the Housemartins classic.
Over the previous few weeks the band had been hard at work learning a new song that on our bass player’s first hearing described it as ‘the sort of shit my daughter listens too!’ Turns out it’s the sort of shit EVERYONE listens to as the new Phantom cover Titanium by David Guetta went down an absolute storm (no pun intended). So well in fact that we had to play it again at the end of the night! Who’d have thought the Roy clientele were so down with the kids!

With the addition of a cheap light bulb from Amazon, the Roy stage was then turned into a flashing disco & the final set duly started with an impromptu unrehearsed request from the 80’s loving table of lovely ladies down the front. Turned out the band just about remembered how to play Cars by Gary Newman. Nice.
Then after a full on punk onslaught it was time ‘for something completely different’ as the band brought the night to a climax with a collection of cheesy party bangers: the ‘Time Warp’ from the Rocky Horror Show, ‘Backstreet’s Back’ by The Backstreet Boys & ‘Right To Party’ by The PHAN-TOM-BOYS!

Massive thanks to the Roy for having us & all the great punters for being so supportive. It’s always a pleasure to play to a bunch of people clearly enjoying themselves! Thanks again & see you back at the Roy in December (1st December) for the Phantoms traditional start to Xmas. x

The Phantoms were: Mark Gibson (lead vocals & keys), Kevin Rogers (guitar), Jason Biggs (guitar & vocals), Jon Novice (bass & vocals) & Alun Westoll (drums & vocals).
