With the arctic conditions
temporarily on hold, 110 hardy souls made the trip to Kingston to see the band at their now traditional annual xmas gig at
the Grey Horse. All the boys (minus the planned guest sax
player who had succumbed to the weather) met up at the Enjoy Cafe in
Feltham to fuel up prior to the gig, feeling like Rock & Roll
royalty as the cafe had only stayed open especially for us!
Nice. So, onto the gig. Support act Roger Henderson began the
evening in phine style in front of a good early turnout & was
guaranteed plenty of encores as the Phantoms lead singer had
gone temporarily AWOL!. But with seconds to spare he decided to
turn up & the main act took to take the stage. Your favourite
phestive covers band then instantly kicked into gear doing what
they do best, and the happy throng were treated to a couple of
fun filled hours packed full of sing-along favourites that had
the masses dancing from beginning to end. Amidst all this, Big
Kev set a new band record by managing to snap not just one, but
two strings on separate occasions! Maybe blunter plectrums are
in order next time round Kev! The new songs 'Rocks', 'Sex on
Fire' and 'I Gotta Feelin' all got a favourable reception, as
did our closing number, the slightly controversial choice of
Christmas classic, Gary Glitter's 'Another Rock & Roll
Christmas'. If you listen to the words of this song, now knowing
what we all do, it sounds extremely dodgy in places! But the
crowd were full of early Christmas spirit & all retired to the
bar in good cheer with the sound of sleigh bells still ringing
in their ears. The band are now going straight back into the
rehearsal room to swat up on more cheesy Christmas classics &
are already looking forward to doing it all over again in
a few weeks time when you can enjoy yet more phestive phun with
the Phantoms as they go ho-ho-home for Xmas at the General Roy
Pub, Feltham on Wed 22nd Dec! And it's FREE! It's just like an
early Christmas present! Phantstic!
