After a few
months of uncertainty, the new look Phantoms, along with a
massive 5 other acts from the Feltham stable all took turns to
entertain the crowded Marquee at this weekend's main rival to
the Isle of Wight Festival. Stereophonics or the Phantoms - no
competition! With our lead singer suffering from a nasty bout of
hayfever (now I remember why we don't do these gigs on the
field!) and the two new guitarists set to make their debut,
the band waited nervously in the wings whilst the Woodcut
Process & Gary Marsh:Solo set the early standard. But we needn't
have worried as the last few months of hard work in the
rehearsal room were soon to pay off. The Phantoms took to the
stage & with a killer short set of Phantom classics up our
sleeves soon had the tent packed and the appreciative crowd
dancing and singing along! As soon as the opening bars of first
song Cigarettes & Alcohol were ringing out, it was like we had
never been away! With electric guitar in hand & a new found
mastery of bar chords, Jason put in a top performance,
unrecognisable from his acoustic folk alter ego. Other debutant
Big Kev, undaunted by the chants of his adoring following played
a blinder, even finding time to try out his new improvised intro
to the Killers 'All These Things That I’ve Done'! Oh, and the
older members of the Phantoms were OK too! The allocated half
hour flashed by and it was soon time to make way for the main
acts of the day with the crowd well & truly warmed up! Job done.
We are now going back into the rehearsal room to teach the new
boys the rest of the set & look forward to seeing you all at
our return to the Grey Horse in Kingston on Sat 5th Dec (where
we will be further enhanced by the addition of our long time
keyboard wizard Jon Phantom). It's good to be back! Right,
where's the Piriton?
