Bri sets the standard!
Meltdown at the
Grey Horse! The Phantoms turned up the heat, or was it more to do with
the record breaking 140 strong crowd who packed in to see the band’s
8th appearance at
Kingston's No.1
Music Venue. Phans
came from far and wide, even sailing up the
Thames and jetting
in from America especially for the occasion (some
even travelled from Feltham to be there)! Nice! The evening got off to a
great start with a well attended set by the Woodcut Process, bolstered
by the excellent Dave Lambert on harmonica. The Phants then stepped up
to deliver what was possibly
their strongest ever set-list to the eclectic crowd, ranging from hen
parties, our keyboard player's
every living relative, giants, sailors and nurses through to the
Phantoms
oldest phan (74 year old Auntie Jill!) Despite numerous technical
hitches (exploding bass-drum
pedals
and erratic guitar
effects pedals) the new songs ‘Let Me
Entertain You’, ‘Girls & Boys’ and ‘Suffragette City’ received a rave
response from the sweaty masses, as did all the old ones, if the
spontaneous stage invasion
was anything to go by (note
to self - must employ security for the December gig)! Next time round
we’ll try and get the air conditioning turned on as well! At one stage
it was soooo hot some of us thought we were gonna die of heatstroke!
Lucky we had some nurses on hand (so to speak)! Talking of nurses, they
were the ones shouting ‘Git yer kit off’ to our lead
singer! They were
either referring
to the extreme temperatures or maybe the drunken laydeez just wanted to
see Gibbo naked! Trust me, you don’t want to see that (then
again, being nurses, their interest was probably for ‘medical research’
purposes)! This was arguably the
best the
Phantoms have ever played as a unit! Thanks
for all your
comments on the message board & hope to see you all back
at the
next gig on 1st Dec – free entry with a
(new) Phant t-shirt! |
