The Phantoms best
ever gig at the Grey Horse! Playing their groundbreaking 30th gig to
date, another record breaking crowd of well over 130 phans (many of whom
had travelled from far and wide) congregated on the pub for the final
time this year! Obviously offering free entry if wearing a Phantom
t-shirt paid off! The Woodcut Process kicked off the party mood playing
to possibly their biggest ever crowd (including one of their own
compositions 'Cold Dark Night' performed for the very first time!) and it was then like Christmas come
early when the Phants took to the stage looking fetching in their new
matching multi-coloured 30th gig t-shirts. The entire first
set was performed to the accompaniment of a hairy scary Scot's bloke
apparently called ‘Jesus’ shouting ‘GIVE IT SOME F'IN WELLY’ at the
band! Fantastic! Who was he? As a result of trying to ‘give it some f'in
welly’ Si promptly snapped a string! Typical! Then, after a fight at the
bar for interval refreshments and clamouring round the merchandise stall
for a rare chance to own a limited edition phantom badge (still a few
left!) the crowd returned to the now very sweaty back room. The band
again took to the stage, this time with the assistance of our ‘special
mystery guest’, Helen Baden, who had last sung with the Phantoms at the
Hand & Spear Pub back in April 04. After injecting a note of culture for
4 songs, Helen departed and the Phantoms then descended into their usual
full-on climax to the set. Not to be outdone by Jesus, some fat northern
bloke then began shouting ‘Leeds’ at the top of his voice! New songs
‘Feltham Dagger’ (learn the words Bri!) and ‘Fix You’ both went down a
storm, shame we cant say the same about our other new song ‘Air
Hostess’! Though even that didn’t stop the likes of Chopper Harris &
Mike ‘the hat’ Beckett pogoing like nutters down the front! A top night
all round! Thanks for all your support over the last 30 gigs and look
forward to seeing you at a Phantom gig next year. Rock on!
