Despite half the
band suffering from snapped ribs & spinal disorders only days before
the gig, the Phantoms
third visit of the year to the Grey Horse didn’t disappoint! The
evening kicked off with a fantastic support set from The Bigg Man
(the better looking half of the Woodcut Process) who’s full on folk
set went down a treat with the early crowd. Then with over 100
punters packed into the venue, the main act took to the stage. With
excellent sonic assistance from John the soundman, the band belted out their usual
brand of indie-rock mayhem with the two new
additions to the set (Monster & You’re All I Have) becoming an
instant hit with the phans. As ever, Nov was a vision is his lovely
new shirt (apparently he bought it in Tonga - which presumably is a
charity shop in Huntingdon!) and Gibbo was soon to
join in the dressing up thanks to some bloke in the crowd with hats
who claimed it was ‘International Hat Day’! Any excuse to don a
beret in public! With the temperature and volume reaching dangerous
levels, The Phants signed off with the encore combo of Mrs Robinson
/ Run before staggering off stage to join the sweat-drenched phans
for gallons of water / lager… Even the stars
came out to see the Phantoms with both musical legends
David Grey and Piers DeLavison (keyboard player with top Genesis
covers band Re-Genesis) spotted amongst the throng! A big thank you from the band to the phantom phaithful for your usual great support at all of our gigs this year
and we look forward to seeing you all in December for our final gig
of the year (hopefully featuring a mystery guest)! How exciting!
