Val Wiseman began her
career in the Midlands before
moving to London to join The Monty Sunshine Band.
Val
soon pursued a solo career, broadcasting with Humphrey
Lyttelton, Alex Welsh, Sandy Brown and others; and
recorded an album with phenomenal trumpet star Kenny
Baker and the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Continuing her work as a solo jazz singer, she toured
Europe and Canada and appeared in various shows
including:
“Drummin’ Man” – the tribute to Gene Krupa –
singing the Anita O’Day material.
“Swinging Down Memory Lane” – featuring songs
from the American Songbook with John Petters and the
highly acclaimed singer-pianist, Nick Dawson.
And “S’Wonderful”, produced by the same company
in tribute to the Gershwins with the accomplished
pianist and arranger, Martin Litton.

She has also fronted
the critically acclaimed Billie Holiday tribute
“Lady Sings The Blues”. The album from the show
was voted ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ by CD Review (1990).In 2003 Val
released her first solo album, Just For A Thrill, to
enthusiastic reviews and gained much air play. It featured Brian Dee on piano, who
also wrote the arrangements, Simon Thorpe on bass, Ralph
Salmins on drums, with guest appearances from Bruce
Adams, trumpet/flugelhorn and Jim Mullen on guitar.
Val is currently appearing in
“Jazz Goes To The Movies”
celebrating jazz classics on film,
“Sophisticated Lady” featuring the Ellington
Songbook with Martin Litton, Trevor Whiting, Mike Piggot
and Pete Morgan and “Divas Of Swing”; a tribute
to Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee , Billie Holiday, Sarah
Vaughan and Anita O’Day.
A remarkable jazz singer, Val Wiseman tours extensively,
featuring in concerts, festivals, television and radio
broadcasts throughout the UK and Europe.
