Ella Fitzgerald & Joe Pass - a Tribute

Featuring a selection of songs that Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass recorded together in the 70s and 80s, vocalist Helen Baden and guitarist Rod Fogg bring you a tribute to the famous duo in a concert that brings you laughter, entertainment and a little bit of history.

Helen Baden
Helen has been active on the London Jazz scene for the past 4 years and for the last year has been appearing with Digby Fairweather's band as well as fronting her own ensembles of UK's top jazz musicians such as Craig Milverton, Geoff Castle, Jimmy Hastings, Kate Williams, Len Skeat and Dave Green. Helen is a vivacious character, welcomed at top venues including Pizza Express, Dean St, the Bull’s Head in Barnes, the Spice of Life

“It’s always nice to draw attention to a fine voice”
Humphrey Lyttelton

Rod Fogg
Performer, teacher, composer and author, Rod Fogg excels in many different areas of the contemporary guitar scene, with his own trio; as a fingerstyle soloist, touring and leading workshops; and in the “Hot Club” scene playing the music of Django Reinhardt. Rod has won fans up and down the country with his relaxed presentation and friendly stage-show, while guitarists have benefited from his broad knowledge of a wide range of styles. His influences include jazz artists such as Charlie Parker, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. Rod describes the jazz guitarist Joe Pass as his “spiritual father”!

Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass recorded four albums together on Pablo Records, toward the end of Ella's career. They appeared together on the albums; Take Love Easy (1973), Fitzgerald and Pass... Again (1976), Speak Love (1983) and Easy Living (1986). Joe Pass' extensive use of walking bass lines, melodic counterpoint during improvisation, and use of a chord-melody style of play opened up new possibilities for jazz guitar and had a profound influence on future guitarists.
