Kenny Martyn and his
musicians bring you a swinging, entertaining,
informative evening dedicated to the music of Benny
Goodman, the “King of Swing”.
The music of
legendary clarinettist and composer Benny Goodman is now revived in
its original form for the first time in England since he
last played here in October 1976. Using the original
arrangements; including parts written for the famous
Carnegie Hall concert in 1938, this show illustrates the
importance of his music in jazz history and how it led
to the Swing Era and the explosion of Big Band music..
Goodman
amassed a huge repertoire in the 54 years he
recorded and some of the hit titles featured in the
show are:
Stealin' Apples
Sing Sing Sing
Airmail Special
Bei Mir Bist du Schoen
Slipped Disc
One O'Clock Jump
Flying Home ..... and many more!
Band leader Kenny
Martyn, has spent much time studying and mastering the
Goodman sound; his breathtaking clarinet virtuosity
ensures the timeless legacy of Benny Goodman lives on.
The show, which can be presented as a Septet or a Big
Band, uses musicians taken from the cream of the British
jazz scene - Tommy Whittle, Roy Babington, Roy Willox,
Tony Fisher, Gordon Campbell and Steve Rushton to name
but a few.
Kenny has
performed at many distinguished venues. He has played to
critical acclaim at the London Palladium, the Barbican,
the Royal Albert Hall and is a regular headliner aboard
the QE2. |
