Robert Fowler and Karen Sharp

Robert Fowler

"Fowler is a personable voice on tenor
and clarinet. His relaxed flourishes recall Scott Hamilton... rewarding music,
full of bright moments."

Salute to Al and Zoot

Al Kohn and Zoot Sims"Al Cohn and Zoot Sims were products of a decade highlighted by change, rebellion, and reassessment of values in jazz and pop music. The '40s saw big bands rise to their zenith of popularity and fall out of favor, singers taking on a new importance, Lester Young at his peak of creativity, and the new music of Parker, Gillespie and Monk making an indelible indentation on musicians and public, alike.

Though peripherally influenced by Parker, Cohn and Sims never veered too far off course, and have, in fact, expanded on the basic style that Young first created. It is to be noted that the roots of these two musicians run deep in jazz, and Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins and other figures of import in earlier jazz have played a big part in the development of both musicians."

Karen Sharp, fresh from Humphrey Lyttelton's band and now in demand not only with her own quintet, but the British Jazz Allstars, joins forces with Robert Fowler for this amazing tribute to the music and style of Al & Zoot.

“over the past three or four years, she has steadily - I might almost say stealthily - developed into a major artist on the scene…a unique opportunity to witness talent unfolding.”
Humphrey Lyttelton

"Robert Fowler has a broad, mellow tenor sound that is reminiscent of the great saxophonists of the 1940s and 50s, and a swinging vibrancy to compete with the best."  Jazz CDs

"The first thing anyone notices about his tenor saxophone playing is the tone. It's broad, warm and juicy, a perfect fit for his calm, measured phrasing. "
Dave Gelly, The Observer
